"The dress code is something that always royally pissed me off. Most excuses given when trying to the defend the dress code was that it was meant to keep you looking professional. Well, as a kid who was always taller than most kids in my class and considerably bigger the dress code was always something seemed to shame me. My legs were longer so shorts (that are getting shorter and shorter might I add) used to come upper/middle-thigh for me. I'd used to always get in trouble or go to class constantly stressing about my shorts. It's funny though, while I had always had to sit through teachers shamming girls for showing skin, I very rarely heard anything about the boys and their tank tops and low hanging shorts. Obviously it was a double standard. But whatever, right? It kept us looking "professional"... Well except for pj day, or spirit week, or Halloween, or literally any other time in the year. What a weak excuse, schools need to get better at covering up this insane double standard. The dress code promotes the sexualization of young girls which feeds into rape culture. I honestly can't wait for the day I never have to experience it again."
